Latex chlorinated

Latex with a refined surface, advantages and disadvantages

A particular attraction of latex is its smooth, shiny surface.

However, this also requires regular care, otherwise it appears dull and the material sticks together.

Chlorinating latex chemically changes the surface. As a result, the material appears more silky matt to silky glossy and is slightly less elastic.

On the other hand, the surface no longer sticks together, but rather glides together like nylon. Chlorination is highly recommended for my street style collection and latex bed linen.

Another important feature of chlorinated latex is that it can no longer be glued back together, or only with intensive pre-treatment. This can be a disadvantage even for minor repairs. Ultimately, however, both variants require care. Even if chlorinated latex is not the main focus, VIVISHINE care products prevent it from becoming gray.

Tips for handling chlorinated latex

  • the latex needs internal protection with silicone oil
  • either rinse in water with a little silicone oil after each wash or
  • spread enough silicone oil on the latex after a few uses, place it in a bin liner or bucket and leave it to soak in
  • if you want the latex to shine more, you can apply a thin layer of silicone oil
  • chlorinated latex can also be dried in 5 minutes on the wool program in the tumble dryer
  • if you add soft cloths, this has a polishing effect
  • without a tumble dryer, drying stains can be avoided with a towel
  • Breathable garment bags are suitable for storage
  • the skin and latex should always be completely dry so that the latex glides over the skin when putting it on
  • Light, oils and deodorant also destroy chlorinated latex in the long term
  • Larger items of clothing that have little tendency to “slip” are particularly suitable (e.g. catsuits, shirts or coats)
  • stockings, miniskirts, short latex dresses or latex leggings can easily slip down due to the particularly smooth surface of the chlorinated latex
  • Tip: Fold back the edge of stockings by about 10 cm and moisten with a little water. After folding back, the water acts as a bonding agent and the stockings no longer slip

Advantages

  • Chlorination significantly increases wearing comfort
  • the surface is protected by the special treatment
  • the durability of the latex is significantly increased
  • Minimal care required
  • putting on and taking off is child’s play
  • there is no need to apply silicone and powder when getting dressed
  • several layers of latex can easily slide over each other
  • the drying time is only a few minutes – chlorinated latex is suitable or at least more suitable for allergy sufferers

Disadvantages

  • Repairing latex clothing becomes more difficult/impossible
  • only thick latex clothing can be repaired satisfactorily using the “sanding method”
  • Latex clothing changes its feel, it becomes firmer and stiffer
  • this effect is clearly noticeable at first – the material becomes a little softer again with prolonged wear
  • due to the change in feel, the chlorinated latex appears subjectively thicker (0.25 mm latex feels like 0.35 mm latex, for example)
  • the original smell disappears and is replaced by a new, more “industrial” smell
  • initially, a residual chlorine odor may be perceptible, but this disappears completely
